Want to know how Pass Protection works? We’ve got you covered. Here are some important details about how reimbursement following an approved claim works.
A few things to keep in mind: Most importantly, this is based on an approved claim. It is also required that you notify Spot and/or plan administrator within 20 days of the covered event or as soon as reasonably possible. Be sure to review your specific policy for more details.

Cancellation for Season Passes
If a covered event occurs from the day after you purchase Pass Protection until the start of the defined season date, it falls within the Cancellation period. During this time, you are eligible for a 100% reimbursement of your pass purchase price if your claim is approved.
Interruption for Unlimited Season Passes
If a covered event occurs after the season starts, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the unused portion of your pass. The unused portion is calculated by prorating the purchase price daily from the date of the covered event to the predetermined season-end date. The period between the season start and end dates is referred to as the Interruption Period.
Here’s an example:
You purchase a Season Pass on March 16, 2023 and add Pass Protection. Then a covered event occurs on January 25, 2024, and you file a claim. In this specific situation, the event occurred 25% through the interruption window, so you’d be eligible for a 75% reimbursement of the Season Pass purchase price.
Multi-Day Lift Passes:
Cancelation and Interruption for Daily Passes is event-driven. We break that down here:
Cancellation for Multi-Day Lift Passes
If a covered event occurs from the day after you purchase Pass Protection up to the first use of your pass, you’re within the Cancellation period. This means you’re eligible for up to a 100% reimbursement of the purchase price if your claim is approved.
Interruption for Multi-Day Lift Passes
If a covered event occurs between the first time you use your Multi-Day Lift Pass and the last time you would have been able to use your pass (and you purchased Pass Protection), the event falls within the Interruption period. In this case, you’d be eligible for a prorated reimbursement amount based on the remaining days tied to your specific pass.
Here’s an example:
You purchase a 4-day Pass and add Pass Protection, because you know that means Spot has you covered in case many unexpected events change your plans. You make it to the mountain and spend two awesome days skiing with your Pass. Then a covered event occurs and you have to file a claim. Bummer. Since you only used 2 out of the 4 days tied to your Pass, you’re eligible for a 50% reimbursement of the Pass purchase price under Trip Interruption!
Let's say you purchase a 4-day Pass and add Pass Protection, but a covered event occurs and prevents you from taking the trip altogether. Because you were not able to use your pass at all, you are eligible for up to 100% reimbursement of the Pass purchase under Trip Cancellation.
